President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated the essence of the unity of Nigeria, urging those contemplating its break-up to have a rethink. The President said this at a meeting with the Council of South-East Traditional Rulers at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday.

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on Thursday announced the dismissal of five lecturers and the termination of appointments of eight others in Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi. The dismissal and termination of appointments are in connection with sexual-related offences. The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Masa’udu Kazaure, who made this known at a news conference in Kaduna, said 16 other lecturers were demoted, while four others were warned. He also said two others were advised, another two cautioned, while one lecturer would be mentored. He said the development was the outcome of an investigation following a publication by The Punch newspaper of April 9, 2016 with the title: `School Where Prostitutes Assist Male Students to Get Marks’. The ex-NSA, Sambo Dasuki has been detained by the Federal Government since December 1, 2015 in spite of the bails granted him by three different High Courts in Abuja. Suicide bombers suspected to be loyal to Boko Haram insurgents  on Saturday  morning detonated bombs along Maiduguri Damboa road in the fringes of the metropolis. The explosions killed no fewer than nine persons and injured 24, but still counting as casualty figures could rise. The second explosion occurred close to an Internally Displaced persons (IDPs) camp. A witness said “Bomb blast in Bakassi IDP Camp of Maiduguri and the second bomb blast at NNPC Depot Damboa Road.” As the security and response agencues moved to the two scenes of the explosions,  PRNigeria gathered that 9 dead bodies and 24 injured victims have been recorded so far. The Spokesperson of National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA) in Maiduguri, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, only confirmed the efforts of rescue and health workers in the  evacuation of wounded victims to hospitals for treatment while the dead bodies have been deposited in the mortuary.

Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE with assistance of Civilian JTF have arrested quite a number of infiltrating Boko Haram terrorists in Maiduguri and Mafa, north-east Nigeria. Confirming the report  on Friday , Acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, said a presumed kingpin of the group, Abur Modu Magaji, was apprehended by Civilian JTF  on Thursday  afternoon, at Kasuwar Shanu (Cattle Market) and handed over to troops.   “Preliminary investigation shows that he admitted to rustling 45 cows from Saleh Mohamed with 20 other Boko Haram terrorists at gun point. He however cooperated and assisted in pointing out 7 other suspected terrorists at Mafa road checkpoint” Usman said.  

A man with mental health issues broke the security barrier around St Peter’s Square in Rome, ramming his car through a checkpoint demanding to see Pope Francis. Police in Rome said in two statements that they arrested a 64-year-old “mentally unstable” Italian who drove into a one-way street to the left of St Peter’s colonnade. “He crashed past a police vehicle and broke through the wooden barricades that surround the square.

President Barack Obama of the United States has assured of continued assistance to Nigeria especially in key sectors like agriculture‎ that would ensure that the country comes out of its current hardship. He further assured that his administration was putting everything in place for sustained partnership and cooperations between the two countries even after he leaves office. * SSG pleads for patience The 2015 Batch `B’ National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to Sokoto State have   protested the non-payment of their four months state allowances amounting to N49.04 million. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the protesting Corps members were being owed state allowances between July and October 2016. The Corps members, who concluded their service year  on Thursday , marched from the NYSC Secretariat at Kalambaina, Sokoto, to Government House.

Jodi Magi was found guilty and subsequently jailed for “writing bad words on social media.” The conflict began in February, when the 39-year-old took the photo and blanked out the number plate of the vehicle before sharing it on her  Facebook .
