Australian Woman Deported From UAE For “Writing Bad Words” On Facebook

A 39-year-old Australian woman has been deported from Abu Dhabi for a posting a Facebook photo that exposed someone else’s parking violation. Jodi Magi/Twitter An Australian woman has been deported from United Arab Emirates after she was arrested and  jailed  for posting a Facebook photo of a car without disability stickers blocking two disabled parking spaces in her apartment building – because exposing such a narcissistic act is apparently a crime. Jodi Magi was found guilty and subsequently jailed for “writing bad words on social media.” The conflict began in February, when the 39-year-old took the photo and blanked out the number plate of the vehicle before sharing it on her  Facebook . Although she reportedly posted the picture to draw attention towards the selfish act, someone in her building recognized the car and filed a complaint. Flooding: Nasarawa state government warns residents against indescriminate flooding

The Nasarawa State Urban Development Board (NUDB), has advised residents of the state against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, considering its health implications on human lives and to avoid flooding. The Managing Director of the board, Alhaji Adamu Sule-Mohammed, gave this advice on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia. Dispute Over: Supreme Court Affirms Yahaya Bello as Kogi Governor

Yahaya Bello remains the elected governor  of Kogi state, the Supreme Court ruled today, bringing to an end all the acrimonies around the election last year. The court which held all the nation on tenterhooks,  while awaiting the judgement dismissed all the appeals filed by all the parties against Bello’s election last year. It dismissed the appeal by James Faleke, the deputy governorship candidate of Abubakar Audu, who died before the election result was announced and who was substituted in the supplementary election by Bello. Faleke contended that Audu had won the election and  there was no need for the supplementary election. He argued further that as the joint holder of Audu’s ticket, he should be declared the winner of the election. But the justices did not agree with him. His appeal was dismissed for lacking in merit. The justices affirmed the decisions of the lower courts. The court  also dismissed  former Governor Idris Wada’s case against Bello. Also dismissed

Beware of Excessive Use of Paracetamol, Lagos Doctor Warns Pilgrims

Pilgrims performing this year’s Hajj have been warned against excessive   in take of pain relief and other unprescribed drugs to prevent possible kidney damage and other health problems. A member of the Lagos State Medical Team in Mecca, Dr. Abdul Majeeb Isa-Muhammed gave the warning during a health enlightenment programme. The medical practitioner who condemned the act of abusing drugs, particularly, paracetamol among pilgrims advised that regular consumption of water and fruits is essential to addressing pains associated with dry heat that is being experienced in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia rather than the use of drugs. Dr. Isa-Muhammed attributed the incessant weakness and pains suffered by the pilgrims to the hot weather which he said drains both water and vital minerals in the body. EFCC Arrests Babangida, Others

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a man identified as Ibrahim Babangida for offences bordering on criminal breach of trust, attempted theft, conspiracy and impersonation. Also arrested with him is another suspect bearing Murtala Mohammed, along with the driver of the agency, who was identified as Nasiru Isa. The driver, who joined the Commission about 18 months ago, is a member of a criminal syndicate that attempted to break into a sealed property by the EFCC, with the intent of carting away goods suspected to be proceeds of money laundering. The syndicate, apart from Isa, Babangida and Mohammed,  include a mobile police officer, Corporal Aliyu Ismaila, Abubakar Jibrin, Abdulsalam Ado, Reuben Dauda, Hassan Aliyu, Sani Yusuf. Located in the choice area of Garki, Abuja, the property is currently under investigation by the agency, and became a subject of interest, in the aftermath of findings into the N3.9 billion fraud case involving a former Chief of Def

Special Troops of 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, conducting field training exercise code named “Operation CROCODILE SMILE” , have destroyed 74 illegal refineries and a number of camps belonging to militants and kidnappers various parts of Rivers and Bayelsa States using swan buggy and other specialists equipment. Confirming the report on Friday morning, acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, said troops of Sub-Sector Bravo in response to a tip off on the presence of suspected kidnappers at Akupoku community, carried out a raid at the location but no arrest was made as the kidnappers have fled the area. The Army spokesman said the team also raided Ke community, at the verge of the Atlantic ocean where they discovered and destroyed an illegal refinery. “The troops recovered and destroyed 3 large cooking pots and 20 tanks filled with illegally refined Automated Gas Oil (AGO)”, Usman said. ASUU Frowns at Nigerian Govt over Reduction of Budgetary Allocation to Education Sector 

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has decried the reduction of the Federal Government’s allocation to the education sector from 11 per cent in 2015 to 8 per cent in 2016. The ASUU Sokoto Zonal Coordinator, Dr Lawal Argungu, made this known at a Press Conference in Sokoto  on Saturday . “The way FGN treats the funding of education in this country makes it difficult for ASUU to believe the sincerity of the government in reforming the education sector in Nigeria. ”It is certainly quite possible for us to reposition our educational sector appropriately if we put our priorities right in this country in spite of the apparent economic hardship. ”The union is willing to use every legitimate instrument at its disposal to ensure government fund universities as contained in the valid agreements, Argungu said.
