Rita Edochie , Popular Nollywood actress, On Saturday in Abuja said that she was unaware that she was pregnant when she was in primary six. Foreign rapper Wale says 'I’m proud of Davido, Wizkid and Olamide’

Nigerian-American  rapper, Wale, has expressed his admiration over the musical dexterity of his countrymen, Davido, Wizkid and Olamide, by stating that he is proud of them. Nasarawa Assembly Committed to Speedy Passage of NAGIS Bill

The Nasarawa state House of Assembly, committee chairman on Lands and town planning, Hon. Hashimu Jibrin Gurku, has assured that priority would be given to the bill seeking to give legal backing for the establishment of the Nasarawa Geographic Information Service (NAGIS) to ensure its speedy passage. Gurku who spoke on Thursday in Lafia during a one day public hearing on the bill commended Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura for establishing NAGIS aimed at addressing the challenges of land registration and administration in the state, adding that the idea was in the right direction. Gurku explained that when the bill is passed into law, it would reduce the frequency of litigation on properties,    increase revenue accrual to the state and add value to property as a result of proper documentation. Taraba State Governor, Ishaku Raises the Alarm over Presence of another ‎Militia Group in Taraba

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State has confirmed that militia from Tarock in the neighbouring state of Plateau are now occupying several villages in Dampar ward of Ibi Local Government Area in the state. The governor confirmed the wrongful occupation in a media chat with journalists in Jalingo. He said the state government has been working tirelessly round the clock to draw the attention of the Plateau state governor to the development. “ I am very much aware that the militia group from Tarock in Plateau state has taken over some villages in Dampar Ward of Ibi Local Government Council of our state. I have written the governor and he has agreed to look into it” , Ishaku said. Russia to Establish Nuclear Centre in Nigeria

The Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Nikolay Udovichenko, on Saturday announced that the Nigerian and Russian Governments plan to sign an agreement for the establishment of a multifunctional scientific research nuclear centre in Nigeria. Udovichenko, who disclosed this in Lagos at this year’s Alumni Congress of the Soyuznik Alumni Association in Nigeria, said that the Nigerian and Russian governments had been negotiating for the centre’s establishment. The theme of the congress was “Harnessing The Potentials of the Nigerian Graduates of Higher Institutions of former USSR States”. “Bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Russia is blessed with huge potential in every avenue. “Nuclear energy development is another area with good prospects for our two countries’ cooperation. “This June, we expect to sign a bilateral agreement for the establishment of a multifunctional scientific centre in Nigeria,’’ he said. AfDB, World Bank Launch $328m Water, Sanitation Projects in Port Harcourt

Water supply and sanitation projects worth $323million have been launched in Obio/Akpor communities in Rivers. The project is jointly sponsored by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the World Bank and Rivers Government. This is contained in the AfDB’s newsletter, May Edition, issued by its Nigeria Country Office on Saturday in Abuja. AfDB Country Director, Dr Ousmane Dore, who launched the project in Port Harcourt, said it was aimed at provide sustainable access to safe drinking water and sanitation to the residents of Port-Harcourt. “This marks a milestone in the history of the Port Harcourt and Obio /Akpor communities with the launch of the $328 million Urban Water Reform and Port Harcourt Water Supply and Sanitation Project. “The project is financed by the AfDB, $200 million, the World Bank, $80 million and Rivers Government, $48 million. “AfDB’s loan of $200 million will focus on putting infrastructure and systems in place to ensure water produced gets to the en

Troops Avert another Militants’  Attack on Agip Oil Pipeline in Bayelsa

Nigerian Army on Sunday said its troops successfully averted another attempt by militants to blow up oil facilities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Col. Sani Usman, spokesman on the Army, said in a statement that:‎ “Today, 29th May 2016 in the early hours of (the) morning, troops of 343 Artillery Regiment of 2 Brigade, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, carried out patrol within the general area of Gulobokri and Eweleso, around Brass area in Bayelsa State.” Usman also said “During the exercise, the patrol team had an encounter with some armed militants in 2 Speed boats with intents to blow up Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) pipeline at Gulobokri.” He added that “The suspected vandals opened fire on the patrol team. INEC Says We only Recognise the Sheriff-led PDP, Port Harcourt National Convention 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says aside from the National Convention of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) holding in Port Harcourt on Saturday, it is unaware of another convention of the party. The commission’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja. Osaze-Uzzi said that contrary to media reports that two parallel conventions of PDP would hold in Abuja and Port Harcourt same day, there was only one PDP known to INEC, which had conducted congresses at all levels. “There is only one PDP known to INEC, which has been holding congresses at the ward, local government, state and zonal levels. “There is only one convention known to the laws and regulations of INEC for which we were given appropriate notice and that is the one in Port Harcourt.” Osaze-Uzzi said that the commission would monitor elections to all offices at the Port Harcourt convention

Buhari: Amina Ali Must Not Remain in ‘Brutality of Forced Marriage’

President Muhammadu Buhari  on Thursday  assured that Amina Ali, the rescued Chibok Schoolgirl, must return to school, saying no girl-child should be forced into what he called “the brutality of forced marriage”. He said this when he received Amina, her baby, her mother and her sister led by the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shetima. Nigerian Army Rescues another Chibok Schoolgirl, Serah Luka

Barely 48 hours after the rescue of one of the 219 Chibok Schoolgirls, Amina Ali and her four-month-old daughter, Safiya, the Nigerian Army on Thursday recorded another feat with the rescue of a second girl. She is Serah Luka.‎ Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Col.
