Nigerian Govt to Set up Technology Hub in Eight Zones, Targets 400,000 Youth

‎The Federal Government  in recognition of the central role innovation and technology play in national economic growth, is set to establish technology hubs across the country. This is even as it targets to train 400,000 youths in the country in partnership with Google.‎ In partnership with several major technology companies, two super hubs would be established in Lagos and Abuja and six regional hubs in the six geo-political zones. ‎ Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said this at the flag off ceremony of Google Digital Training for Youth Empowerment with the theme “Diversifying Nigerian Economy: enabling youths through digital skills training”. Politicians Fret as Nigeria, UK Sign MoU on Return of Stolen Assets 

The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Government on the modalities for the return of Nigerian stolen assets. The Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, signed on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja on Tuesday. Malami said that the MoU reflected the desire and willingness of both countries to continue cooperation and mutual support. Malami said that this was in the responsible and transparent return of all recovered assets. He outlined the objectives of the MoU to include the fact that the processes of returning stolen assets was a partnership recognising the interest of both countries and based on mutual understanding, confidence and trust. “That both countries recognised that they have a mutual interest in ensuring that returned assets are not at risk of being misappropriated again. “And that both countries recognised they have obligations toward their own citizens for providing such assurances.

Nigerian Air Force Shatters Boko Haram’s Newly-built Camp in Borno Community

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), during a night operation conducted  Tuesday , successfully destroyed a new Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) Camp located between Malam Fatori and Kangarwa in Northern Borno. Director of Public Relations & Information, Group Capt. Ayodele Famuyiwa, said the new camp is about 4-6km away from the BHT location attacked earlier on 20 August 2016 by NAF Mi-17 helicopter within the same vicinity in a similar night operation that led to the death of about 300 insurgents. He said the post-strike Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) mission had revealed that surviving BHTs converged at the new location. “The information was later confirmed to be true by series of follow-up Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions that led to the latest strike. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II) on Sunday, August 28, took up the role of a chorister as he led praise and worship during a church service at his palace. In the 44 second video clip, the Ooni is seen singing praises as the congregation danced with all their might. At Last Al-Makura Bows to Workers’ Pressure, Suspends Illegal Deduction from Salaries

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has officially stopped the illegal deductions from workers’ salaries. He gave the pledge in the heat of a nationwide solidarity protest organised by members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). The National President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Waba, disclosed this on Tuesday in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital while addressing workers at the state labour house. He explained that after the intervention of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, NHRC, on the on going strike in the state and the protest that led to the killing of two workers, Governor Al-makura  has acceded to demands of NLC and the recommendation of NHRC to immediately stop the controversial deduction of workers salaries and to also compensate families of the slained victims. Mr Jacob Fayehun, Chairman, Nigeria Automobile Technician Association (NATA) Lagos State Chapter, has said that Ajaokuta Steel Company is enough for the country to produce its own cars.
