Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has officially stopped the illegal deductions from workers’ salaries. He gave the pledge in the heat of a nationwide solidarity protest organised by members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). The National President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Waba, disclosed this on Tuesday in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital while addressing workers at the state labour house. He explained that after the intervention of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, NHRC, on the on going strike in the state and the protest that led to the killing of two workers, Governor Al-makura  has acceded to demands of NLC and the recommendation of NHRC to immediately stop the controversial deduction of workers salaries and to also compensate families of the slained victims.
