The Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), a Lagos-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), has said that it assisted over 100 inmates to regain their freedom. The PRAWA Executive Director, Mrs Uju Agomoh, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday Agomoh said that the inmates were awaiting trials at the Enugu Prisons. She said that of the 100 inmates, 67 with mental illness were transferred to PRAWA by the Chief Judge of Enugu for treatment and rehabilitation in psychiatric hospitals. According to her, close to 90 per cent of them have been reintegrated back into their families. Agomoh said that in March, PRAWA initiated what it called Civil Society Practitioners Platform to share experiences and partner with other NGOs. “We also intensify our programmes through human rights training for the police.
