EFCC Arrests Babangida, Others

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a man identified as Ibrahim Babangida for offences bordering on criminal breach of trust, attempted theft, conspiracy and impersonation. Also arrested with him is another suspect bearing Murtala Mohammed, along with the driver of the agency, who was identified as Nasiru Isa. The driver, who joined the Commission about 18 months ago, is a member of a criminal syndicate that attempted to break into a sealed property by the EFCC, with the intent of carting away goods suspected to be proceeds of money laundering. The syndicate, apart from Isa, Babangida and Mohammed,  include a mobile police officer, Corporal Aliyu Ismaila, Abubakar Jibrin, Abdulsalam Ado, Reuben Dauda, Hassan Aliyu, Sani Yusuf. Nigeria Government Says Not Importing Poisonous Rice

The Federal Government has described  attempts by  unscrupulous individuals on social media  linking the government and Dangote group with a plan to ‘flood’ the country with genetically modified rice (GMO) as  extremely uncharitable. In real terms, the Federal Government  in 2014 signed a $1billion Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) for investment in integrated rice project  with Dangote Industries Ltd. Further to this agreement, Dangote Industries Limited this year cultivated over 8,000 hectares in Hadejia, Jigawa state, creating over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs for farmers who are the major beneficiaries of the scheme. Al-Makura in trouble: One Dies as Policeman Opens Fire on 4 Workers during NLC President’s Meeting with Al-Makura

Police in Nasarawa State on Friday allegedly shot four workers as the Nigeria Labour Congress began talks with the State Government over the protracted labour crisis rocking the state. NLC President Ayuba Wabba told newsmen at the Police Clinic in Lafia that the workers were allegedly shot by a policeman at the gate of the Government House where they had gone to await the outcome of the NLC meeting with Gov. Umaru Al-Makura. Workers in the state had embarked on an indefinite strike following the decision of the state government to slash their salary by 50 per cent. According to Wabba, one of the workers has died, while three others, including a lady are being treated for gun shot wounds at the clinic. Nigerian Army Rescues another Chibok Schoolgirl, Serah Luka

Barely 48 hours after the rescue of one of the 219 Chibok Schoolgirls, Amina Ali and her four-month-old daughter, Safiya, the Nigerian Army on Thursday recorded another feat with the rescue of a second girl. She is Serah Luka.‎ Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement that: “We are glad to state that we have rescued a girl believed to be one of the    Chibok Government Secondary School girls that were abducted on 14th April 2014 by the Boko Haram terrorists. “Her name is  Miss  Serah Luka, who is number 157 on the list of the abducted school girls. “She is believed to be the daughter of Pastor Luka. “During debriefing, the girl revealed that she was a JSS1 student of the school  at the time they were abducted.
