Special Troops of 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, conducting field training exercise code named “Operation CROCODILE SMILE” , have destroyed 74 illegal refineries and a number of camps belonging to militants and kidnappers various parts of Rivers and Bayelsa States using swan buggy and other specialists equipment. Confirming the report on Friday morning, acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, said troops of Sub-Sector Bravo in response to a tip off on the presence of suspected kidnappers at Akupoku community, carried out a raid at the location but no arrest was made as the kidnappers have fled the area. Nigerian Army on Sunday said its troops successfully averted another attempt by militants to blow up oil facilities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Col. Sani Usman, spokesman on the Army, said in a statement that:‎ “Today, 29th May 2016 in the early hours of (the) morning, troops of 343 Artillery Regiment of 2 Brigade, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, carried out patrol within the general area of Gulobokri and Eweleso, around Brass area in Bayelsa State.” Usman also said “During the exercise, the patrol team had an encounter with some armed militants in 2 Speed boats with intents to blow up Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) pipeline at Gulobokri.” He added that “The suspected vandals opened fire on the patrol team.
