Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State has confirmed that militia from Tarock in the neighbouring state of Plateau are now occupying several villages in Dampar ward of Ibi Local Government Area in the state.
The governor confirmed the wrongful occupation in a media chat with journalists in Jalingo. He said the state government has been working tirelessly round the clock to draw the attention of the Plateau state governor to the development.
“ I am very much aware that the militia group from Tarock in Plateau state has taken over some villages in Dampar Ward of Ibi Local Government Council of our state. I have written the governor and he has agreed to look into it” , Ishaku said.
He added that part of the problem in the state is the spill over of the crisis in Benue State whose perpetrators came from Tunga in Nassarawa State.
“Part of the problem we have in this state come from River Benue. The perpetrators of these ills come from Tunga in Nassarawa state”, Ishaku added.
The governor said plans to engage governors from the states of Benue, Plateau, Nassarawa and Taraba have been marshalled out.
“We need the four governors to come together, bringing the four governors together is not easy”, he said.
Also confirming the illegal occupation of the villages, the state police commissioner, Shaba Alkali, said they have advised the state governors to meet and resolve the issue.
“We have advised the Executive Governors of the states to meet and resolve the issue”, Alkali said
He noted that the action has political undertone as the state police command has been working round the clock to ensure peace in the area and in the state at large.
