36 Fulani Jailed 72 Years for Illegal Arms Possession



The Chief Magistrate Court in Keffi,  Nasarawa State, on April 21, 2016, sentenced 36 Fulani armed men to two years each in prison without the option of fine.
The convicts were arrested with arms on April 17, 2016, by soldiers of the 177 Guards Battalion in Keffi.
They claimed they were going to Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State to assist recover rustled cows belonging to their kinsmen.
The verdict of the court was disclosed last weekend in a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ismaila Numan, an assistant superintendent of police.
Numan said the convicts could not produce the owners of the said cows, licenses to carry arms, nor could they give convincing account of themselves.
“The suspects pleaded guilty and were sentenced to two years imprisonment for criminal conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms for each offence to run concurrently without option of fine” the statement read in part.
The state Police command said it would continue to value the existing synergy with other sister security agencies and called on the general public to ensure a crime free society.
He said Items recorvered from them include: one pump action gun, 108 cartridges,  a truck with registration No: SUL 541 XA; Toyota Camry with registration No: KUJ 99 FX and hard drugs, among others.
