JAMB Announces Date For 2016/2017 UTME (CBT)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has announced that the 2016/2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will begin on February 29.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, February 16, by the Board’s Head of Public Relations, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

According to Dr Benjamin, the board would make use of about 500 Internet-complaint centres in the country for the Computer-based Test (CBT), as the over one million applicants will sit for the examination, which the board said, would last for seven days.

In a statement issued by JAMB, the examination would hold in seven other centres outside Nigeria, namely; United Kingdom, Ghana, Cameroon, Republic of Benin, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Ethiopia.
The statement reads in part: “Candidates are urged to print their examination notification from Thursday, February 18, 2016 for the schedules of their examination.
The notification contains their date, time of examination and venue. Candidates are to adhere strictly by these schedules, as there will be no rescheduling of any examination if a candidate misses his/her date or time of examination.”
“They are to be in their various centres 30 minutes before their time. Again candidates are advised to check their schedules properly as JAMB will not condone any excuse in the event of candidate missing his or her time and date of examination.
“Candidates are to also note that they can visit JAMB accredited Computer-Based Centre or any cybercafé to print their slip or any place of their choice. It could be done at their homes.”

NBTE Fires 13 Lecturers, Demotes 16 Others at Auchi Polytechnic over Sex-for-Marks Scandals

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on Thursday announced the dismissal of five lecturers and the termination of appointments of eight others in Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi. The dismissal and termination of appointments are in connection with sexual-related offences. The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Masa’udu Kazaure, who made this known at a news conference in Kaduna, said 16 other lecturers were demoted, while four others were warned. He also said two others were advised, another two cautioned, while one lecturer would be mentored. He said the development was the outcome of an investigation following a publication by The Punch newspaper of April 9, 2016 with the title: `School Where Prostitutes Assist Male Students to Get Marks’. He said: “The summery of the publication indicated that students hire prostitutes or beg their girl friends to sleep with lecturers on their behalf in order to earn higher grades in their courses. “The lecturer chooses a hotel ...
