Mr. Simon Achuba has been sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Kogi State after the state House of Assembly approved his nomination for the position.
Governor Yahaya Bello had sent a letter containing his nomination as deputy governor to the Assembly on Monday after weeks of deliberations.
Achuba was sworn in as deputy governor behind closed doors at the banquet hall of the Government House shortly after the House endorsed his nomination.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Momoh-Jimoh Lawal, confirmed to journalists, who were denied entry into the venue of the inauguration, that the approval was in response to a letter by the governor seeking the consideration and approval of the House for the nomination.
He added that the request and approval of the Assembly was in consonance with Section 191 (3) (c) of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended) which provided for the position of a Deputy Governor.
The speaker explained that the approval of the Achuba, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All progressives Congress in May, 2015 was to prevent a vacuum from being created in the state government.
Achuba, a two-time member of the House was asked to take a bow and go following the submissions of members that as a former member of the Assembly, there was no need to subject him to rigorous screening.
Born on July 13, 1964, Achuba was a member of the Assembly between 1999 and 2007 and Deputy Speaker of the house between 2003 and 2007 as well as the immediate past chairman of Kogi State Environmental Protection Board.
Also, the Assembly approved a list of 21 nominees for appointment as special advisers to the governor.
Lawal added that the request for special advisers was contained in a separate letter from the governor.

She had dark hair, pale skin and almond eyes. And she sang like an angel. Everyone agreed on that too. Until she was 10 our little girl lived in the big city. It was a sprawling, bustling, filthy place. She lived in a hovel. Well, it wasn’t so much a hovel as a rundown garage. And, when the wind blew at night, the doors and shutters creaked and banged and she was very afraid. And every year when the fierce monsoon rains wreaked their vengeance on the earth the floor of the garage flooded and the little girl’s bare feet were cold and wet. One night in a fearsome storm our little girls’ mummy died – “of pneumonia”, they said, but our little girl didn’t understand. And so she and her widowed father and her five brothers and sisters left the garage in the big city and went to live on a tropical ...

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on Thursday announced the dismissal of five lecturers and the termination of appointments of eight others in Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi. The dismissal and termination of appointments are in connection with sexual-related offences. The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Masa’udu Kazaure, who made this known at a news conference in Kaduna, said 16 other lecturers were demoted, while four others were warned. He also said two others were advised, another two cautioned, while one lecturer would be mentored. He said the development was the outcome of an investigation following a publication by The Punch newspaper of April 9, 2016 with the title: `School Where Prostitutes Assist Male Students to Get Marks’. He said: “The summery of the publication indicated that students hire prostitutes or beg their girl friends to sleep with lecturers on their behalf in order to earn higher grades in their courses. “The lecturer chooses a hotel ...
